hello in interested in this product and ill like to know i if buy it how long does the tank last and how can i recharged!! thanks1 answer
The Survivair Cougar 888888 is a 30 minute rated self contained breathing apparatus. This 30 minute rating can be a little misleading if you aren’t familiar with SCBA’s.
The breathing rate of the user will determine the actual service life of a charged air cylinder. With moderate exertion, you should get very close to the rated time. However, in a stressful or highly active situation, the cylinder can be emptied in as little as 15 minutes.
Think of a fireman entering a burning building, climbing stairs to the second floor. You can see that this level of energy output will deplete the air supply much faster than simple tasks, such as exiting an industrial plant in the event of a leaking ammonia refrigeration system. Makes sense?
As far as refilling the air supply cylinder, we usually look for 3 types of locations. Any of these should work, in no particular order;
If you are near a dive shop or scuba dealer, they can handle easily and inexpensively.
Many industrial customers that use SCBAs have a passing relationship with the local fire department. They will often refill for no charge.
Industrial gas suppliers, Airgas for instance, will refill. This may be the most hassle, but these sorts of dealers are all over the country.
