This kit gives you everything you need, including tyvek suits, and a half mask respirator, granting you the confidence to tackle any dirty, dangerous or hazardous job or home improvement project you’ve been putting off. The pros wear an asbestos mask when removing asbestos and lead paint from old homes and buildings. It is also a great kit for construction demolition, lath and plaster removal, painting, grinding off bottom paint from boats or working in contaminated or questionable environments such as attics, crawlspaces, and basements.

This is an extremely incredible value! Our Lead and Asbestos Removal Pro Kit includes your choice of one of our most popular half mask respirators:

3M 6000 Series Half Mask Respirator

This maintenance-free, reusable respirator from 3M is the basic face piece we recommend when starting to build a complete mask. The lightweight design is comfortable for long periods of wear, while the adjustable cradle suspension holds the respirator in place for maximum fit and comfort. Like the other 3M filter masks we sell, no extra parts or tools are needed to attach filters or cartridges to the face piece. Filters are attached with a simple 1/4 turn onto a bayonet-style fitting.

3M 7500 Series Half Facepiece Respirator

3M’s best half mask respirator is well worth the price because the face piece, made of soft silicone rubber, is more comfortable and conforms to the face much better than less expensive masks. This means that the mask can be worn comfortably for longer periods of time and can be used for many projects.

In addition to your choice of half mask respirators, the kit includes:

1 pair 3M 2091 P100 (HEPA) filters These P100 (HEPA) filters are among our most popular products. HEPA filtration is rated to remove 99.9 percent of particles .3 microns and larger. These protect against asbestos and lead dusts in particular, as well as other dusts, allergens, and fumes. These flexible filters are extremely light and attach to all 3M masks with a simple 1/4 turn onto a bayonet-style fitting, requiring no tools.

1 DuPont Tyvek 1414 Coverall with attached Hood and Boots This zippered one-piece disposable hazmat suit, with attached hood and booties, is our most popular protective suit for professionals and do-it-yourselfers. This suit is suitable for paint spraying, mold treatment, and lead or asbestos abatement. These suits can breathe so they don't get too hot but prevent dangerous particles down to 1 micron in size from penetrating the coverall.

1 pair MCR Safety 9688 Flex Tuff II Gloves These gloves are comprised of a breathable 10-gauge gray cotton/polyester knit shell coated with a gray latex dip to provide a rough finish for superior grip and wear. These dirt-resistant gray gloves are formed in the shape of a relaxed hand to reduce fatigue and enhance worker comfort.

Your choice of one of the following eye protection pieces is also included:

Pyramex G204 Goggles These economical chemical splash goggles contain indirect vents to restrict liquids from entering the eye. If your work takes you outdoors these goggles provide 99% protection from UV-A and UV-B rays.

Pyramex G704T Goggles These quality chemical splash goggles fill the gap between the inexpensive lab goggles you used in high school chemistry class and more expensive goggles worn for skiing. These feature a low-profile, modern design with an anti-glare soft PVC frame.

Is the lead and asbestos removal pro kit appropriate for working in very old house basements to avoid mold and dust?

The Mold and Asbestos Kit will handle the nasty dust in an old basement, including asbestos, no problem. For the mold, if you feel the area is damp and the mold actively growing, we will want to make a small change. Using the 3M 2097 filter is recommended. The 3M 2097 has a thin layer of activated charcoal built in to the filter. This absorbs the organic vapors given off by actively growing mold. Especially as you disturb the area where mold is growing, all sorts of interesting compounds can be released, depending on the type of mold.

Also, please be sure and have your eyes well covered by tight fitting goggles, or better yet a full face respirator.

A lot of this depends on how sensitive you are to the mold exposure. While the lead and asbestos are pretty much bad in any quantity, the mold affects people in different ways.

We have been cleaning out my parents old house. Lots of old clothes, pictures, etc. You know the drill. My wife is very sensitive, and any amount makes her ill for days. I can work right beside her, and have no perceptible changes in my respiratory health.

OSHA doesn't provide a specific figure on the highest temperature a person can work in. They do recommend precautions be implemented when the heat index is 91-103 F. Further precautions are recommended as the temperature continues to rise.

Unfortunately there is no set time frame and at this time no visual indicator. The only way to tell when to change it out is through smell. When you have the respirator on with the filter/cartridge, you should not be able to smell anything at all from the outside, so when you start to smell faint odors, then it is time to change it out.
