The Sky Genie system, manufactured by Descent Control, consists of a lightweight cast aluminum device and special heat-resistant nylon rope, used with a variety of belts and chair seats. The principle of operation is friction generated by the special nylon rope that wraps around the shaft, and passes through the device, allows the user a controlled descent. By changing the number of turns around the shaft, the rate of descent may be varied. Fingertip pressure on the free end brings the user to a complete stop. Also, the device may be locked off by looping the free end over the device. Simplicity and ease of operation are key factors that have made this product popular since it's introduction in 1960.
Our most consistent users have been window washers and utilities. In the case of window washing, one person can be suspended on a chair seat with 200 ft of line (1 working/1 safety) and the total system weighing just lb. For buildings without scaffolds, this can make all the difference. For bucket trucks, the E2 system has been very popular as a self rescue system. Should the hydraulic system become disabled, the user has a convenient, safe means of escape.
