The Fisk Descender and Sky Genie products are useful tools that have multiple applications. They offer a method of controlled descent from height, whether for rescue or as part of a maintenance operation. In the case of a fall while wearing a harness and lanyard, it may be that there is no easy way to get the worker down in short order. This can lead to what is called "suspension trauma". A worker suspended in a harness for more than 6-10 minutes starts to accumulate blood in the lower extremities. Advance planning for this may include the use of a descent device for self rescue in the case where getting to the individual is problematic. This may include swing stages on the side of buildings among others.
