RamFan UB20XX Blower Video Transcript
Hi! This is Rick Pedley, and welcome to PK Safety Supply.
Today we're going to be looking at the RamFan UB20X Hazardous Location Blower from Euramco Safety. This unit is intended for use in confined space entry where there might be flammable vapors present. The unit is UL listed for hazardous locations with gaseous atmospheres. Now, let's look at a few things that make this unit unique and why you might want to buy it.
First thing you might notice is that the unit is black. That's because the polyethylene that this is made out of -- that is, it's plastic, not metal, double-walled construction -- the polyethylene has 10% carbon in it. This carbon dissipates static electricity that might be built up as air moves through the unit. The duct canister has the same black plastic. The unit comes with a 30-foot cord attached by this Velcro strap here. It has a totally enclosed motor -- a UL-listed motor with all the various test results that are available on our site. Has, instead of a toggle switch, a push-pull switch. This push-pull switch is, once again, intrinsically safe so in the type of atmosphere we're talking about, it'll be working.
Now, a lot of you have our UB20 standard -- the yellow one. This one's a little bit different. Weighs a bit more. This one's 23lbs. It's about five pounds more than the standard UB20. That's mostly to do with the motor switches a little bit more. The other thing that's a little bit different on our UB20 is that the ends narrow down a bit, so you can put plain old ducting, strap it on. On this there is no -- because of the larger motor -- there is no narrowing down. So, if you do want to put ducting on both ends of the unit, you're either going to have to get another canister or there is an adaptor available to allow you to use eight-inch diameter ducting on this unit. The unit has guards on both ends. The air flow is indicated by this arrow here, so if we wanted to push the air, we'd put our duct canister on this end. If we want to pull the air, we'd put it right there. So, I'm going to plug this thing in and we'll take a look, but one thing I'll mention is that the 30-foot cord typically comes with no connector on it. This particular one I had made-up with a three-prong connector, but when you buy it, it'll come with no connector. The point of that is that you can either hardwire this into some electrical junction box, or you can put an explosion-proof connector on the end. Now, there's quite a few of those, and they're not all compatible. We can special order a connector, but typically they don't come with it.
Now I'll just plug this guy in… and then we use the push switch to turn it on or off. It's not too loud! Works real well. So then what I'm going to do is take the canister -- and this contains 25 feet of ducting -- and just attach it…very convenient system… has these straps on it… these heavy rubber straps… just put those on there and the whole unit is one piece! Really nice! The connection, of course for this static electricity is maintained the entire time…. then we have a heavy-duty strap on the end with a cap. We pull this off and this 25 feet of ducting is going to come shooting out! Also note that the ducting is quite heavy fabric reinforced with extra fabric around each of the spirals on this. So it's heavy-duty stuff that's going to last a long time. That's pretty much what makes it unique…
Works really well. Hope you'll enjoy it if you buy one. Thank you!

- Extra lengths of ducting and bends in the ducting will both reduce the output CFM. We're unable to supply a simple equation to calculate the reduction in CFM as many factors go into this. Please call us with your specific application and we'll be happy to recommend an appropriate blower.
- Yes, the whose system is intrinsically safe. The ducting is coated with an anti-static layer to prevent sparks and arcing.
