Howard Leight Max 1 Earplug Video Transcript
Hi! This is Rick Pedley, and welcome back to PK Safety Supply.
Today we're going to look at the Howard Leight Max Earplug by Sperian. This Howard Leight earplug is going to come in a box of 200 pairs. The earplugs are packaged in one pair per baggie, so each pair may be handed out and used individually.
The box is going to have instructions about the Noise Reduction Rating (NRR); how to wear the earplugs, that is, how to put them on; as well as all the protection information that you might want to see. This is going to have the NRR or Noise Reduction Rating -- in this case 33 -- which is quite high. A lot of earplugs you see are rated 30, so this one's a little a bit higher than most. There are a couple of others.
I'm going to put the box aside here and we'll look at the plugs themselves. The earplugs, as I've said, come in a baggy. This has the NRR, the means of putting them in your ear… we'll take out a pair here. Now this is the Max I, and they're available in the so-called Max 30, which has a cord between them. But the plug itself is notable for a few things. First, the color. Some people will say they're pink, but they look a little orange to me. But the manufacturer says that they are coral… alright.
Zoom in here so we can see this a little bit better. The earplugs are soft with a very smooth finish which is notable because it keeps the dirt out of your ears. It doesn't attract dirt in the way that something having a surface texture would.
So, to put them in, of course, just like any other foam earplug, we're going to roll them between our fingers… just like that -- best if your fingers are clean! Once we've done that, it rolls down to a fairly narrow section. This is then put in your ear and then starts to expand. It's relatively slow, and as it expands, it's going to seal off your ear canal. That's where the protection comes from. The other, of course, is the type of foam, the density of the foam, both things that Howard Leight has spent a whole bunch of time working on to make just right for you… once they've expanded, the noise should go away.
And that's basically how they work! A very simple device, the Max is one of their original plugs. It's very popular. I will say that when I'm thinking about these earplugs for myself, they're a little bit big.
The pressure as the plug expands is something to think about. Howard Leight Maxlite earplugs has what they call a low pressure foam. I find them to be a bit more comfortable, but they are only rated NRR 30. That's still quite high, but we always tell people the only earplug that works is the one you wear. So, I think it's best to try these things out. We do have a sample pack on our site and we offer a pair of many different earplugs you can try out… but, you'll see that just over these few seconds, it has expanded to virtually it's original size, and it's ready for use. I think you'll find them to be exceptionally effective against noise, and that's exactly what they're there for!
Thank you for taking a look! Bye!

The best option would be to go for a hearing band. The HOWARD LEIGHT QB2HYG HEARING BAND QB2HYG should work well. The plastic band will keep the earplugs in place regardless of the size of the ear canal.
