Rick: Hi! This is Rick Pedley and welcome to pksafety.com!
Today we're with Chris Coyle from Capital Safety, the manufacturers of DBI-SALA, and we'll be looking at the features of their Exofit NEX Harness -- this is the latest and greatest, a premium product, and we sell a ton of these things, and I'd like to have Chris show you why you'd want to buy this particular harness and what it might do for you.
Chris: Well, there's a number of different industry-first features on this harness, Rick. The first target our product manager was focused on with this harness was adjustability. A lot of the times when you're in the field, harnesses are a pain to adjust. And if they're a pain to adjust, then odds are the guys and gals in the field are not wearing it properly. As we know, wearing a harness properly is a very important thing. So some of the things we've adjusted are focused strictly on adjusting the harness.
One of the first thing we've done is create a rolling adjustment feature to give you more or less adjustment.
Rick: So you just turn that knob and it shortens up?
Chris: You turn it, and it just cranks it -- we call it our revolver. It basically just rolls up on itself and it stores all of that webbing so you don't have any loose housing.
Rick: No loose stuff hanging around!
Chris: Exactly. So you're not worried about catching anything or hanging you up anywhere.
Rick: There's a closeup photo of that on our site.
Chris: Yeah, so that's kind of the first thing we've taken a look at. The second thing we've done is make an adjustment to our quick connect buckles. So our standard quick connect buckles pop in and out of place kind of like a seatbelt. But what we've done with this to make it a little easier to adjust is create kind of a cam lock on that buckle. So when you've got it unlocked, the webbing passes in and out of there nice and easily so you can adjust it down to your leg size. Once you've got it adjusted down, you're able to turn that lock back over and that prevents it from slipping on you while you're working.
Rick: So once you've got it sized, it's sized!
Chris: Exactly. So that makes for quick and easy adjustments on the leg straps.
The next big feature we have on the Exofit NEX Harness comes with the trauma steps.
Rick: Oh yes, the suspension trauma straps.
Chris: Yes, so this is the first harness line that comes with them integrated. It's usually sold as an accessory.
Rick: A popular accessory, I might add!
Chris: So, a built in safety feature in the event that someone were to fall, they're not worried about passing out because they're able to deploy the trauma straps and use them to take the pressure off of their legs.
Rick: Good! We have a video of that on our site!
Chris: So if you want to get a better look at how those trauma straps are used, you can certainly have a look on the website.
Rick: Cool! And then it looks like we have a pocket there. Do you put your cellphone in that?
Chris: Exactly, yes. We have a pocket for a radio or a cellphone, keys or anything to store inside of that pocket. And then on the top here, we have a couple of lanyard keepers -- tear-away lanyard keepers -- so you can clip your --
Rick: Clip your 100% tie-off or something like that.
Chris: Clip your snap hook, and they break away so that in the event that it gets caught on something, it's not a safety hazard. And then also, on the back of the harness, we have a standup D-ring. So that D-ring is always in the upright position…
Rick: Easier to grab on to.
Chris: Exactly. So it's not hanging down and tougher to find on your back.
Rick: That's cool. The other thing I love about these harnesses is that they have this new forged aluminum hardware, the Techlite hardware. This stuff almost feels like plastic it's so lightweight. And it really makes a different when you're wearing the harness all day long.
Chris: No doubt. And then of course we also have our built-in shoulder pads and a beefed up leg pad just for added comfort while you're wearing it throughout the day.
Rick: Well, all of these features add up to a premium harness, one which our customers -- even though they're a little bit pricey -- they always go for it. There's details of all of this on our site. Pictures, close up of every single bit we've just shown you. Please check it out.
