MCR Safety Cut Resistant Styles

Gloves and sleeves that incorporate high-performance yarns with anti-cut properties made from DuPont Kevlar, Dyneema or Spectra. We list them here in ascending order of cut resistance. This is based on trials in our office, using a utility knife with a fresh blade. With enough pressure, any of these products can be cut through. They are cut resistant, not cut proof. And none should be considered puncture resistant.

Kevlar - Known for it's cut resistance, Kevlar para-aramid fiber is also very heat resistant, which makes the sleeves quite popular in applications where contact with hot objects would burn the forearm. This may include hot tailpipes in muffler work, or protection from welding sparks and slag. The fibers will char at 1000F.

Dyneema - Dyneema is a superstrong polyethylene fiber that offers maximum strength combined with minimum weight. It is up to 40% stronger than aramid fibers, on a weight for weight basis. The Dyneema styles shown are relatively thin for maximum dexterity, which is a consideration in cut resistance. The Dynneema fiber is not particularly heat resistant and will melt at around 212F (100C), which may be a problem depending on the application.

Spectra - Spectra fiber is one of the world’s strongest and lightest fibers. A bright white polyethylene, it is, pound-for-pound, ten times stronger than steel, more durable than polyester and has a specific strength that is 40 percent greater than aramid fiber.

Please note that one aspect of this cut protection is the relatively slick surface of the yarns. To offer enhanced grip, a variety coatings are applied. Among our most popular is the latex palm of the BearKat. Others include polyurethane, PVC and leather. Gloves without a coating, such as the Spectra, will feel quite slick. Not a problem if used as a glove liner, or when holding something soft, like meat.
