3M FT-31 Bitter Sensitivity Solution is part of the FT-30 Bitter Qualitative Fit Test Apparatus, used to check the fit of respiratory equipment (or indeed any other respiratory mask, such as the N95 mask) that forms part of your usual worksite personal protective equipment.

This FT 31 qualitative fit test helps to protect workers from potentially harmful dusts, gases and airborne particles and is required to meet OSHA respirator safety standards regarding dust masks and similar equipment.

Each 55ml bottle is a special mix of water, sodium chloride and denatonium benzene; this sensitivity test is utilized to check that the subject can detect the bitter aroma prior to the actual fit test. If the subject cannot, utilizing the sweet FT-10 fit test is recommended.

Workers in dusty environments or confined spaces such as sewers, refineries, firefighters, saw mills and even hospitals – anyone wearing a dust mask or respirator regularly – can and should perform a fit test to check that your equipment is functioning as required.
