Asbestos & Lead Dust Respirator - 3M Half Facepiece w/ HEPA Filter

When someone calls and asks for an asbestos dust mask, this is the item we recommend. It is our most popular respirator package. We have combined the 3M 6000 series halfmask respirator with a pair of 3M 2091 P100 filters to help protect against asbestos, lead and cadmium dusts. Besides being a great Asbestos Respirator or Lead Respirator, it is also good for most types of welding.
Use the asbestos masks if you are working on older heating vents or ducts, "popcorn" ceilings, automotive brake linings or pipe insulation. For lead dust created from grinding off old paint, this respirator should do the trick. This mask is a key part of our Lead and Asbestos Removal Kit.
We also sell a 3M Lead Dust Mask that is disposable.
If the ventilation is less than optimal, for instance for folks using a heat gun to remove lead based paint indoors, we suggest moving to the 3M 60926 Multigas/P100 cartridge. This will add a charcoal layer to absorb any vapors that might be generated. That said, never forget that carbon monoxide (CO) is not removed by this or any other cartridge, and that CO is potentially deadly. Good ventilation is something that can't be over emphasized.
This 3M HEPA mask and filter combination also offers excellent protection for those sanding or cutting fiberglass or working with fiberglass insulation.
On a related note, we have received a fair amount of interest for respirator protection for use at indoor shooting ranges. Depending on the ventilation, many shooters are reporting elevated levels of lead in their bloodstream. This is an obvious health hazard. As a Lead Dust Respirator, this mask provides HEPA level protection for your lungs. Also, lead clings to clothing. So if you have young children in the house, it is a good idea to wash your shooting clothing separately from the family laundry.
Assembly Includes:
1 each 3M 6000 half mask respirator (choose size)
1 pair 3M 2091 P100 (HEPA) filter
Filters attach directly to the mask with 1/4 turn bayonet-style connector. Other 3M filters will also connect to this mask. The video below shows how to assemble and wear the mask.
Mask Sizing
Respirator mask sizes are not quantified with measurements. The majority of our customers, 80% plus, use the medium size. This has held true for many years and across all types of industries.
If your past experience with glasses or hats indicate that you have a much larger or smaller face than most other people you may want to get the larger or smaller size. Usually men with notably large faces, or prominent noses use the large. The rest of us use medium. Unfortunately, there isn't a better way to measure other than Respirator Fit testing to tell if you have a perfect fit.

Great mask!

After using other masks, this one by 3M is the best by far. Even considering the cost, which is quite reasonable, it is. The design, ease of use, and less restrictive air flow was a most welcome change from the others. Great job 3M!!Pros:

I bought this as I have severe seasonal allergies and was advised that it would keep pollen out.I does just that and I love it. I can work in my garden again!
Pros:

I ordered the respirator prior to reading about the sizing info. Fortunately I have a large noggin and the large sized respirator fits quite well, and is doing the job brilliantly. My old 1930 built house is chock full of 7 layer thick paint with at least the first three containing lead. Having the respirator properly fitted and in place allows me to scrape away the old paint in comfort knowing I am protected from the lead fumes and dust. I looked at the same product listed on other sites asking much more $$ for the item. With shipping, my cost was under $25, and now my restoration projects are right on target again. Gun Range Cleanup

This respirator is the perfect safety tool when cleaning and sweeping brass and other dirt from the floor of the gun range.I wouldn't work on the range without it. I'm able to breathe easily and feel confident that lead particles are not being ingested while sweeping. I bought extra filters to have on hand at all times.

Bought two masks and 4 filters to protect the wife and me for a reorganization of items in the attic. This was done after a new roof was installed and lots of small debris and roof dust had fallen through. These masks met the challenge. We bought this mask after extensive research for removing asbestos. My son used it and said it was comfortable and effective. Saved us a ton of money over hiring an asbestos abatement company. Very comfortable, it is very easy to put on and take off. I am stripping my whole house of 120 years of paint and this product proved very helpful. One small glitch is that it is difficult to wear with prescription glasses.Pros:

Hi Jane,Blame NIOSH for the pink! The color is part of their code for N-, R-, and P-100 Particulate filters. If you see pink, it means the filter will pick up 99.9% of all particles down to 3 microns.

Finally a face mask that you can get a good fit by choosing sizes. I have a large head and had problems with getting a good fit.This mask fixes that problem. It is comfortable and easy to breathe in and out. I work in a wood workshop and create a lot of dust. This takes care of the problem.Plus it comes with a set of filters so you are set to go when you receive it.
I have tried several types of masks and this is the one. And a good brand name and you can get replacement filters quick and easy.

This mask worked very well for both plaster dust and fumes from heat gun paint removal. The nose bridge gets uncomfortable after a few hours, but the filters/mask combo did what I hoped. Delivery was quick and on time.Pros:

I used this to tear out plaster and lathe walls in our house. There was also 'rock wool' or 'mineral wool' insulation, which is nasty stuff. I did not have a problem with ANY of the dust getting into the mask, and the house was full of dust during tear out. The mask was easy to put on and use. I like that it came in a resealable plastic bag.After several hours of use the mask started to hurt the bridge of my nose. If I did this for a living I would look for a more comfortable mask. This is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5.Pros:

Comfortable for short periods of time. Works very well at keeping the dust/debris out of your mouth/nose/lungs. I used it for removing old paint. Paper masks seem almost useless for this and most other applications. This worked well for paint removal. Also used it for grinding rust off of metal parts with the wire wheel. Kept the rust dust out of my lungs very well too! After two or three days of use, it really started to hurt the bridge of my nose. Might be worth trying the more expensive silicon one if you are using more than one day.I would recommend this item to a friend.

It felt like this mask made a tight seal around my face (and I have a short beard), and it felt like the filters were working. So as far as I can see, it did the job. Now, I didn't do a reading of my blood lead levels before and after the project, so I just have anecdotal evidence it worked. Plus this is the only respirator I have ever used, so I have nothing to compare it to. But the price was right, and the quality seems to be there.Pros:
