Oberon Arc Flash Suit - ARC140B

Oberon is breaking new ground in electrical worker protection by releasing the first Arc Flash suit tested to provide ballistic protection! For individuals such as electrical contractors or industrial electrician, one may find themselves in a more hazardous work environment where projectiles and shrapnel may be possible. In this environment, provide yourself, or your worker, with the highest level of protection with the Oberon ARC140B Arc Flash Suit!

To provide this high level of Arc Flash protection, the ARC140B incorporates a layer of ballistic Kevlar fabric, in addition to the Oberon ArcX polycarbonate window. The ArcX is an essential component to being able to provide this level of projectile protection. Along with a provide a permanent antifog coating, the outer surface of the face shield is treated with Silicote™-1 for scratch resistance. The suit fabric and shield window has a V50 of an approximate 700 fps for a 0.22 caliber fragment. Please note that this suit is not intended for use as a bulletproof vest.

ARC140B Black Arc Flash Suit weighs in at an approximate 15 pounds with a fabric weight of only 30.4 oz/yd². The ARC140B suit is made with 76% aramid inherently flame resistant, 19% melamine and 5% PB plus a layer of Kevlar. The clothing arc rating (ATPV) is 140 cal/cm², providing protection for every lineman, electrical contractor, thermographer, industrial electrician, or anyone working within the proximity of an energized circuit, from arc flash heat exposures.

With this groundbreaking suit, the ASTM is still in the process of creating a standard to rate the ARC140B suit. Oberon used the National Institute of Justice “Ballistic Resistance of Personal Body Armor” NIJ Standard-0101-01 to evaluate the ARC100 Ballistic. The ARC140B meets the following standards compliance: ANSI Z87.1-2003, NFPA 70E-2004 & ASTM F1506-02a. The Arc Flash Suit was also tested according toANSI Z ASTM F1959-05a and ASTM F2178-02.
