The DBI/SALA Ultra-Lok Arc Flash self retracting lifelines (SRLs) from Capital Safety were designed to provide a safe and reliable fall protection for workers dealing with electrical safety concerns. This includes Gas and Electric Utilities, Refineries and any industrial plant with electrical panels at height. This also makes them ideal for welding, cutting and torching applications. Available in 11 ft. and 20 ft. lengths.
The webbing lifeline is made of Kevlar/Nomex blend that offers the ultimate in spark and fire resistance. These units are all rigorously tested both by an Arc Flash laboratory and drop tested to meet OSHA standards and the test requirements of ANSI Z359.1, once they have been arced. Meets the requirements of the Arc Flash Standard ASTM F887-05. Electric arc tested to 40 cal/cm2.
In addition to the unique features detailed above, there are the well known advantages of using a self retracting lifeline. This includes a fall limiter that expands and retracts with the user so there is no slack in your lifeline, offering greater mobility and flexibility. As compared to a traditional shock absorbing lanyard, the fall distance for the user is greatly reduced. This results in less trauma and impact in the event of a fall.
Because the Kevlar/Nomex webbing does not conduct electricity, and resists fire, sparks, electric arc flash and welding slag, this has been a real answer for folks working around large transformers and electrical vaults. You really couldn’t use steel cable, and most of the webbing units on the market weren’t all that resistant to sparks and flame. Now we have an arc flash rating tested by an independent lab to boot!
The webbing has an Impact Indicator woven in to alert the user if the unit has been involved in a fall. Swiveling anchorage loop and swiveling snap hook combine to prevent twisting of the webbing lifeline. The snap hook has a 3/4 in. opening for attachment to the d-ring on a full body harness. It would probably be a good idea to take a look at our
Arc Flash Rated Full Body Harness page, since this will be needed to make a complete fall protection package.
