3M 8577 Respirator

The 3M 8577 Particulate Respirator mask has a P95 rating for dust particles, and a layer of charcoal for 'nuisance level' organic vapor relief. An exhalation valve provides an easy way for air to escape, keeping the mask cool in use, and helping to reduce the fogging in safety glasses.

The 'P' in the P95 rating means that the filters' electrostatic properties won't be affected by oil mist from products such as oil based paints or stains that you might be using. The '95' means that this mask is 95% efficient against particle .3 microns and larger. The layer of charcoal is meant to absorb organic vapor compounds. This may be the odor from painting a bedroom, or the stench cleaning out an abandoned apartment. The range is huge, but the key is that these are low level vapors. The mask is not meant for automotive spray painting, for instance.
